ArtNoble gallery is proud to present Kit eliminacode multifunzione (fichi d’india), Luca Staccioli’s new series of works, which will be officially presented at Miart 2024 accompanied by a text by Alberta Romano.
Initially developed in the form of drawings and collages during Tagli’s residency in Stromboli in 2022, this new series of ceramic works reflects on the continuous transformation of the landscape and how living beings adapt to it. The ‘snail’ in the supermarket deli counter’s queue-eliminating kit is transformed from an everyday object into the matrix of a living body: these new organisms, with their totemic shapes and colours exploding in sometimes unnatural hues, are inspired by prickly pears, not only for their shape but also for their ability to generate natural kin-groups to protect themselves and multiply.
Staccioli’s practice, which until now had been linked to operations of denunciation, in which the objects-symbols of the consumer system in which we live became mirrors of a lost humanity, take on a different role in this case: by removing the object-matrix from its role of ‘mechanical organiser of ordered rows’, the artist opens the door to a new poetic possibility of metamorphosis and ecological rebirth that looks to nature as its primary source of inspiration. Luca Staccioli’s work of art is no longer just a testimony to a malfunctioning system, but represents a possible alternative: the snail that becomes a living form, the regeneration of a common, obsolete element that becomes the foundation for the construction of the new.
This series of works marks the beginning of a new chapter in the artist’s poetic research, which turns its gaze to reconstruction, a matrix of rebirth for an ecological reality.
