Critical Art Ensemble

Collective formed in USA in 1987. 

Critical Art Ensemble (CAE) is a collective of five tactical media practitioners from various specialisations, including computer graphics and web design, film/video, photography, text art, book art and performance.

Formed in 1987, CAE has focused on exploring the intersections of art, critical theory, technology and political activism. The group has exhibited and performed in various venues internationally, from the street to the museum to the Internet.

Museum exhibitions include Documenta 13, Kassel; Whitney Museum and New Museum, New York; Corcoran Museum, Washington D.C.; ICA, London; Seoul Museum of Art; National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto; Schirn Kunsthalle, Frankfurt; Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris; London Museum of Natural History; Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art, Helsinki; Matadero, Madrid; Les Abbatoirs, Toulouse; ZKM, Karlsruhe; The Garage Museum of Contemporary Art, Moscow. The collective has written eight books and their writings have been translated into 18 languages.
