Bi-personal exhibition - Gabriele Ermini and Jimmy Milani
Curated by Antonio Grulli
30th November, 2023 - 20th January, 2024
ArtNoble Gallery is pleased to present, Flatlandia, an exhibition curated by Antonio Grulli featuring the works of Gabriele Ermini (b.1996) and Jimmy Milani (b.1995).
The title takes inspiration from the fantastic-fantasy novel “Flatland” by Edwin A. Abbott and wants to give voice and space to two young artists in whose work, just like in the book, there is a constant tension between two- and three-dimensionality and a clear interest in the specificity of the medium of painting.
Gabriele Ermini’s research is on an expressly figurative line. The digital and graphic matrix of his works leads to the construction of an image whose rendering conceals the process and pictorial solutions that determine it. The subject often comes into being as a pure pretext for painting, ceding importance to the other elements of the composition.
On the other hand, in Jimmy Milani’s works, iconic subjects, narration, and the materiality of the support interact with each other, developing on both the two-dimensional surface of the canvas and the three-dimensionality of the artwork. Representation takes a back seat in the face of the awareness of living through an interaction with the viewer, highlighting a particular focus on the installation and structural aspects of the work.
In the work exhibited, rationality and feeling collide, giving birth to a constant oscillation between an objective design hypothesis and an intuitive feeling.
It is in this way that Ermini and Milani’s works create an unexpected narrative, which leads the viewer to focus on the transposition of the image, breaking out of the two-dimensionality and openly dialoguing with the objective dimension of the medium under investigation.
